Shortly after we brought our kitties home from adoption day at our local pet store, I got her a crochet pet bed.  Well to be honest I made it on my own.

At first, the beds didn’t interest them much, much to my dismay. But later, I caught them snuggling together in the beds frequently. They are now a staple in front of the fireplace and in sunny spots around the house.

Many people have requested a tutorial, but unfortunately, the yarn I originally used has been discontinued. I spent the past year testing four other yarns, but either they were discontinued before I could purchase more for a tutorial, or they did not meet my standards.

Anyway, I finally found a yarn that was a winner and it’s still available.  So, here is the easy crochet cat (or dog) bed video tutorial and pattern.  Finally!

The yarn I finally landed on was Bernat Big Blanket yarn in the color Vintage.  I really like the color of this cream (it’s not too yellow or too gray) and I knew the cats would love the fuzzy chenille yarn.  It is a little bit more difficult to see the stitches, especially in the first row, but I found it easier to work with than other chenille yarns I tried (one was so fuzzy that it was impossible to see the stitches and know where to work your hook).

The one downside to this yarn is it will snap if it’s pulled too tight.  For my other crochet cat beds, I started with the magic loop/circle but that didn’t work with this yarn.  It would grip itself and wouldn’t slip through when I pulled on it.

When it come to finding a perfect cozy space for your pets, what could be more better than a fuzzy the crochet mat, which would not only provide comfort, but alongside provide warmth.

For the first few rows, the yarn resembled a bowl (That didn’t happen with the other yarns I tried).  It did settle down once I got to the third and fourth rows, but I just wanted you to be aware in case yours does the same. So, here is how I got it right.

Step 1: Gather your Material

You’ll need

  • A size ‘H’ crochet hook for pet bed
  • Bulky yarn (choose a color or colours that withstand some wear or tear)
  • A darning needle to weave in ends

Step 2: Start the Foundation

Work a slip knot to start, then chain 2. Work 6 single crochet stitches in the second chain from your hook. Join the circle with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Step 3: Expand Your Circle

  • Expand your circle by increasing the number of stitches in each round.
  • Make 2 single crochets in each sticharound, total 12 stitches.
  • Alternate between 2 single crochets in a stitch and 1 single crochet in the next stitch, total 18 stitches.

Step 4: Work on the Sides

Once you have your base, stop increasing and simply single crochet in each stitch round, after round. This will create the sides of the bed.

Step 5: Create the Cuddly Edges for Crochet Pet Bed

Double crochet in each stitch (Round 1), followed by single crochet in the spaces between double crochets from the previous round (Round 2).

Step 6: Finish Your Project

Now, all you need to do is give it a litte finishing touch. Look around the bed, cut the remaining yarn and use darning needle to weave in all loose ends.

I am pretty sure the cozy yarn bed would turn ‘pawfect’ for your furry friends. But let’s face it, sometimes they’re just not sufficient to beat the cold. In comes our little hero, the infrared heaters

These aren’t your typical space heaters. The beauty of infrared heaters lies in their method of heating. It’s closer to how the sun heats the earth, providing a natural, gentle warmth. This makes it perfect for pets, as it heats objects directly in its path, ensuring our four-legged friends get warm quickly without the entire room overheating.

National Home Supply has designed their infrared heaters with the safety of your pets in mind. There’s less worry about your curious cat or dog getting too close for comfort.

The heaters are built to be pet-friendly, avoiding the too-hot-to-handle surfaces that traditional heaters often have. So, imagine your little fur-baby, moving from a somewhat cozy crochet bed and settling down in the golden warmth of the infrared rays.

It’s the kind of warmth that penetrates and soothes, perfect for older pets with achy joints, or anyone really looking to spoil their pet with some extra comfort.
